Nikon's head office
building circa 1917
To really understand Nikon's uncompromising commitment to quality, you have to go back to 1917 when the company was founded.
Right from the start, we were making fine binoculars for the discerning user.
In fact, one of our earliest models, the MIKRON, is still used by some, all those years later. What better proof of the durability and optical excellence of Nikon binoculars?

Over the years Nikon binoculars have won their share of "Best Buys" and "Sehr Guts" from many of the world's outdoor and consumer magazines, including "Consumer Reports" (USA), "test" (Germany), and "Bird Watching" (U.K.).
Here are just a few examples:

In 1989, the Nikon Venturer II 8x23 was judged to be a fine, compact optical tool and a "Best Buy", with top or near-top scores on virtually every test ( "Consumer Reports", July 1989).

In 1991, Nikon 8x30E CF WF was awarded a "Best buy" in 8x magnification porro-prism binoculars ( "Bird Watchlng", May 1991).

In 1992, Nikon Fieldscope II was judged a "Best buy" in the telescopes category. ( "Bird Watching", February 1992).

In 1993, Nikon 8x40 CF Sporting II was awarded a "Sehr Gut" in test-QUALITÄTSURTEIL, a "Sehr Gut" in OPTISCHE EIGENSCHAFTEN, and a "gut" in HANDHABUNG ( "test", März 1993). Significantly the other "Sehr Gut" entries were all European models costing several times as much as the Nikon.

In 1994, Nikon Fieldscope ED78 A won a Bird Watching OPA (optical product award) as "Telescope of the Year" (over £350 section). ( "Bird Watching", August 1994)
In 1998, Nikon Mikron 6x15MCF binoculars received the First Prize “Silmo d’Or” in the Instrument-Accessories category at the International Optics & Eyewear Exhibition.
In1999, Nikon 8x42HG DCF/10x42HG DCF binoculars were praised as “unprecedented models in terms of brightness and resolution” and award a “Best of the Best” as hunting and fishing tools of FIELD & STREAMS magazine, a major US publisher for outdoor enthusiast.
